Something I noticed in Mexico is that literally no female I saw in swimsuits on any of the five days I was there looked like our society’s current body ideal. Save for maybe one…my twelve year-old niece. If we are chasing after a body that only a twelve year-old can have, then we have issues. … Continue reading
V did not, in fact, make it down the aisle to support her cousin in being co-flower girl. Not even close. Instead, she threw somewhat of a tantrum five minutes before the ceremony about wanting “bee-yannas,” and the nice man working the bar actually ran off for five minutes to bring his own bananas that … Continue reading
We’re here in Cancún, but our hearts are in California, where many of our loved ones and coworkers have already been evacuated. There are huge fires going on in both northern and Southern California; my sister has been evacuated from the NorCal fire. The Borderline shooting in Thousand Oaks also hit way too close to … Continue reading
Two more sleeps until we leave for a tropical vacation. I have been dreaming about this five day trip for 120 days. We are taking V. Which I’m admittedly nervous about, because, lovable as she is…she’s not very relaxing. But C or I are usually chasing her by ourselves, and at least there will be … Continue reading
We’re still nursing. (An alternate title for this post could be: The Very Reluctant Extended Breastfeeding Mom.) It’s not often, once at night and usually once when I get home from work. This wasn’t the plan, not at all how I thought it would go. My goal was to get to a year. Now she’s … Continue reading
I was not at all prepared for the response to yesterday’s post. I haven’t been posting what I’m writing here on any social media channels. Which, of course, is why a whole total of four people have been reading it. But yesterday, something struck a chord and I felt like, You know what, this is a … Continue reading
It happens, every time. Just so you know. I get my stuff together. I lace up my shoes. You come over to me, babble about something. Eventually, it happens. I say, “Okay, I’m going to work. Can you give me a hug?” And you do. That’s not the moment though. It’s five seconds later, when … Continue reading
Today I met up with John, an old friend I’ve known for half of my life, but haven’t seen in about nine years. He had yet to meet V and we hadn’t caught up in a long time. But like any good friendship, we picked up right where we left off and soon I was … Continue reading
Today, my friend Elizabeth visited and we just played, went to Target, and had lunch. I don’t know how she did it, but she captured the real essence of V and our relationship. It was such a treat to see these photos. V loves to laugh right now and I’ll do almost anything to get … Continue reading
What could it look like to just soften? What could it be like to not watch myself in the mirror, to not look for skin pudge-ing out over my bra, or hanging over the waistband? How could life be without saying to myself, Well, before I had a baby, I looked like ________ / I weighed … Continue reading
